97 850 rear license plate lights

I recently purchased the LED rear license plate lights from IPD since mine were out. I replaced the lights and nothing worked. I even bought regular bulbs and replaced the LED bulbs but the lights still did not work.

My question: is there a fuse or common fault that causes this? Age causing these sockets to no longer work?

It may be possible that you have a broken wire in your rear hatch harness, if you have a wagon.

My son had the same problem with his sedan and it turned out to be that the wires that track along the left hand side trunk hinge were chopped, likely from someone slamming the trunk with something in the way. The wagons suffer a similar problem but it is from the wires flexing at the hinge point for the tailgate.

Both are fairly easy repairs once you find the problem. I used solder and heat shrink to splice the wires back together but many have used butt splices.

do a quick search for the rear wiper intermittent problem - there are some nice pictures of the wiring harness on wagons there...
