Pressure tested the system today, held 1.5Bar (~22psi) without any problem. I let it sit for 1-2 minutes, but it didn't drop.

So that is not the reason.

Also I replaced the engine temp. sensor and thermostat. (because of the code)

What should I try next? disconnect wastegate to see if pressure builds ok? I think it does, but I guess that is the next thing to try. Maybe the ipd tcv has gone bad or something.

How do I see if the engine management has set a "pre-code" (or clear it) ?

I don't know anything about Volvo pre-codes  , despite coining the term. Except what little I've written about them on that page.

I might have named them incorrectly. Maybe I should have said something like "reduced performance trigger" that may be followed by a code. I haven't done the DIY Volvo owner's equivalent of isolating this element in the laboratory, rather I've just witnessed it several times in the wild.

I haven't seen this condition on my car for some time, but I do remember clearing codes wiped the pre-code condition.

Installed the Volvo tcv/bcs that was originally on the car, not really different. Although I do not know if it is working ok.

I already cleared the codes but I will try again.... :(
@pre-code: no problem, I'm just trying to get what info I can. I can't see anything that is wrong, it looks like the ecu does not want it to boost.

I'm burining rubber again :D

With the Wastegate diconnected It had simmilar symptoms, I hooked up the pressure tester to the throttle body and I found a blown hose to the Idle air controller. It was not visible but under just enough pressure it would open up. Thanks for your support guys!

A bit of duct tape fixed that until I can get some new hoses.

It's always a vacuum leak. Ok, almost always ;-)

Great to hear you found it. These things can keep a guy awake at night.

So, after 3 years I thought it would be a good idea to post my learnings from returning the car to its original Performance.

So in the beginning there were the wrongly connected vacum lines for turbo/wastegate control.
Then there were any number of leaks in the old hoses.
The PCV system (which was replaced by previous owner) failed, and also was a vaccuum leak.
Throttle body gasked leaked
Injectors were bad (no dispersion)
Ignition system replaced (wrong coil was installed)
(other related stage 0 items, that probably did not have much effect)

All of that brought the car from being slow to somewhat fast, but it always felt like something was missing. However, everything obvious was fine (boost, vaccum, etc) so I just kind of accepted that as - "well 20 yeas earlier it probably was fast".

Recently I had the timing belt replaced, and the mechanic called, telling me that the cams were misaligned by 1 and 2 tooths. Must have benn a complete idiot that replaced it.. They fixed the problem. I also got a new O2 sensor since the old one failed.

Since then it has not been the same car. It pulls and pulls and ... doesn't stop. Finally the "S" button makes sense, lots of power in the upper range.
It was a long journey, but now I know it was all worth it. 8)

I feel it now rightfully wears the T5-R badge and look forward to chopping a lot more BMW's then before.

In the future there is also a new downpipe and ecu upgrade, but right now I don't really feel like the car needs it. I'll relax a bit from the last issues and it will be a future project. Thanks for all your help on this!

I've had that hose crack in both the old 850 and my S70... a pain to find too unless you buy new. All the ones at the pull-a-part were either taken or broken! Anyway, that little hose does seem to make a big difference and I know no one who makes it in silicone- would be a nice upgrade if they did!!

Wasn't ignoring your last post- yes, it does feel great when you get everything sorted and finally get to stage-0!! Now, it's time to have some fun!!

I think there are a few options to get that hose in silicone, this is one example:
http://www.do88.se/en/artiklar/volvo-85 ... -hose.html
There are resellers and other sources, and I think also other manufacturers.

I actually bought a complete used set from someone because i still have a few original hoses and they don't look too good. But if you get the stock one new, it will probably last another 20 years :)
