1998 s70 broken hose identification and check engine light.
Hi. My car is the 98 2435cc 10v. I've had the check engine light on for a while. And for some reason it just won't read the obd codes. I have on many ocations inspected the car for faulths, but there is not many to be discovered. The air con have not been working and I will try topping up with some freon r134 on Friday. Could this cause the engine light to show up? I have also been smelling petrol sometimes after stopping the engine. This made me look for any leaks, I found a broken off tube underneath the car. Right infront of the right rear wheel. Could this be the tube for petrol fumes? Could this also cause the check engine light to turn on? Many thanks for reading!

That looks like the rollover valve on your cars emission system
The hose is likely the cause of the fuel smell
It will cause codes and your check engine light to come on.
Get some fuel hose and clamps and replace it to start.

+1 on the info from abscate.
I had code P0455 come up on my car and I tracked it down finally to the rubber hoses going into this rollover valve. I'm guessing when you hook up a code reader that P0455 will be the code, or among the codes, that you retrieve.
The rubber hoses are unusual because they have different diameters on each end (at least, they do on my '97 855 -- your experience may vary). Rather than buy the somewhat expensive OEM replacements, I replaced the hoses with fuel line sized to fit the largest diameter. I wrapped tape around the smaller fitting to increase it's diameter to get a snug fit at both ends.
Good luck!

1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
Hi. I still haven't found a replacement hose to sort out this problem. What I have done is servicing my AC with anti bacteriel, filter and top up on freon 134. My ac was working so good it gave me a chilling brain freeze on the way home, but it seems like it have all leaked out and now it's not working again as well as the compressor is making a constant clicking noise when switched on.
