Thermostat replacement procedure 2000 S80 2.9

Can someone please assist with a detailed Thermostat replacement procedure for my 2000 S80 2.9 (non-turbo). I know where it is located but I would like some experienced advise so I am sucessful. (ie: any tricks of the trade, special tools, step by step procedure, cautions,draining coolant, etc.
Getting cold feet in the middle of the winter (NE U.S.A.) - thermostat must be stuck partially open.
All advise is very much appreciated!

Not sure how your car is set up but if you have the expansion tank above the thermostat, drain it out or siphon out so that you don't loose much coolant. When you open the thermostat housing, have a towel wrapped all under it...this will catch what comes out and keeps you from having to drain any coolant (which is a pain). After you change the thermostat, then refill everything. It is easy on both of our cars.

Depends on which engine is fitted as to how the thermostat is replaced.

B6284T; B6294S; B5244S.

These are the Volvo instructions for the B6294S and B6284T engines.
