Re: 1999 V70R No power to ds front marker light

when I connect my trouble light to the plug leading back into the car it will not light and the fuse will not blow. If connect the plugs the fuse will blow it about 40 seconds. With the license plate plugs disconnected the LF cornor light operates. I don't understand why the trouble light does not light but when the plugs are connected the fuse will blow.

I think I found my problem in the left hinge wiring bundle. What a stinking mess.

thank you Mike and Abscante for your help. Here is a recap: front left cornor light and license plate light share fuse 23. Fuse 23 keeps blowing unless the license plate light is disconnected. rear wiper was inop. There is a problem with wire bundle going to hatch. thanks to Mike pointing this out I searched hatch wire bundle in the repair data base. That thread led me directly to the left wire bundle and how to remove and repair. I cut off the plastic sheathing and pulled down the snake skin to reveal the broken wires. To reinstall I used 3/8 open loom secured with electrical tape. Then I pulled over the snake skin.

Nice work kahl. I only had one wire broken in that cluster on my 1999. It has cropped up in several threads recently!

Mine has blown fuse 23 three times in the past month so tailgate wiring job is on the cards for next weekend, if you do check the wires test them by pulling them as sometimes the copper conductor breaks but leaves the insulation intact which makes the wire look ok externally but given time the copper will break out od short.

When the tailgate loom is as bad as the above pictures it is obvious once you expose the wires that things are not as they should be, it is when they get as bad as this combined with a higher than intended fuse rating inserted that electrical fires can start which cause serious damage to the wiring loom, looks like you caught this one just in time - Mike

Thanks, Steve. No joy as of yet with the PB Blaster, so it looks like I may be headed into the loom after all to fix my inoperable rear wiper. Now I know what to look forward to.

Before you cut into it, if you have the motor exposed, turn on ignition and wiper switch and probe all the wires for 12 volts. Volt scale on meter, one probe to ground, the other onto each terminal. If you can't find 12v, it's wire loom time. Repairing that loom isn't too bad. Sharp knife to open up the insulation, matching black tape to wrap it up afterwards
