Very similar symptoms to what I was having on my N/A v70.
Cars seems to run fine with the MAF disconnected.
Will try to give the old MAF sensor a clean with some MAF cleaner and see what happens, until then I haven't noticed any bad running without it connected.
Possibly higher fuel consumption?

Air metering is parr of fuel efficiency. Without it the computer uses a set of values that may not be ideal.

Runs like champ. Thanks for all the advice.
Hi, sounds like, this is a pretty common problem, because I have a same problem. I have a V70 II with 2.3T engine. Sometimes starts,I put to gear, but when I try to accelerate, doesn't do anything, so I have to restart. The other thing is the wind sound around 900-1000, which doesn't bother me but I can feel something is not Ok. I was just wondering is that normal that I cant make it lower at all on fuel than 10L/100km. I know, it's a powerful car but somehow I can't feel it as much the power. I wanna do sth with that, do you have guys any guess where should I start?

Might be related to this string: I have a 2002 v70 xc that has been sitting for about a year. When I start it, it idles very rough almost like it's operating with a cylinder not firing. Any ideas on where to start? I've pulled mice nests from the engine compartment before starting it, and I'm wondering if those little guys might have chewed some wires. It was running great when we stopped using it, FYI.

They will happily chew your wires. They will also love to nest in your air cleaner..check that pronto, before you start it up....
Swedish rats are much worse though.
You are coil on plugs ignition, so figure out which cylinder is missing and start moving things (coils and plugs) around and "find the queen" by seeing which part makes the missing cylinder "move"
Unlike the game played in NYC on street corners, label your parts 1-5 with sharpie so you don't get confused.
You can't rely on DTC for cylinder misses btw.

Thanks abscate, I did indeed clean the airbox, no critters. I also charged the battery, but it wouldn't even turn it over, so a new battery is next. Once I'm "chahged" as they say in Maine, I'll try your bag-o-tricks. Hopefully it's not some other crazy electrical problem... been there.

I'd pull the plugs after a non start event and see if wet. That'll tell your ignition/timing is off. If plugs dry then you know...

The DTC will fire upon hard/full throttle applications.
I serviced a 1999 V70 base the other day and after degreasing it had a miss. Normal driving had no way of lighting the DTC but full throttle in back streets had cylinder 4 reporting in around 25secs on the Android Torque application.
The boot had failed as lots of white powder marks on the end. Swapped it with a good used one and away she went.
