What kind of filters are recommended? Are there check valves in Volvo filters?

I used OEM for the first 40K miles. I am now using Fram that I am getting from Wally World. I have heard of quality problems of Fram but I cut an OEM and Fram open to compare them and they are almost identical in construction and materials. No check valve as these are basic filters.

I will perform my 100K mile service in about 2 weeks. I change my oil every 5K and I use synthetic (Mobil1). I do not burn/loose any oil between changes and I have no oil related issues.

Fram on 95 850 T, no problems and frequent oil changes with Valvoline synthetic.
