Yes, the wiper arm nuts will come off easily. The arms themselves need to be slightly wiggled and lifted at the same time. They have small grooves in them to stay in a fixed position on the motor mount stub thingy (don't know it's proper term). If you don't see any rust, you may just have to wiggle it a bit more.
I've not had to deal with a leak in the AC (yet), but I'm of the opinion that it's best to replace a part than to mend it. Of course, my car has 7 years on yours so most things are too old to repair.
I think the evaporator has packed it in!!

My car has a musty smell, there is some H20 draining at the bottom of the car (when AC runs) but I just want to clean it a bit.
Can someone show me the step-by-step DIY on how to expose the AC rubber drain?
I guess it is simply lifting the carpet on the pass side???

See the instructions for heater core removal. You just need to remove the side panel and get into the center console tunnel.
You could also remove the cabin filter and spray fridge fresh down the air duct opening with the AC on full. Worked wonders for our Buick that had a musty smell.

same with my 1999 v70 x/c , after following your directions and getting to the drain behind the console found out it was melted shut, replaced with male/male brass 1/2 inch fitting from the hardware store that was 1 1/4 long. Works great now, drains great now, no bearing noise on left turn, and a/c works, and no anti freeze smell in car , I'm sure it was also causing the defrost not to function properly.... thank goodness it wasnt the heater core
$ 3.50 one hours work !

Thanks jblackburn, jblackburn wrote:See the instructions for heater core removal...
Actually for this job (AC Drain), there is no need for any tool at all. The only things you need are:
- Small bucket ($1 at hardware store) and diluted soapy water
- 60 cc syringe with small vinyl tubing (O.D. = 1/4").
I heated one end of the vinyl tubing a bit (on the stove) so it fits the syringe.
1. Simply peel the carpet downward.
2. The plastic side panel has 2 tabs (Red Arrows), just pay attention to them during install.
3. Once the rubber hose is disconnected, squirt some soapy water down the bottom drain.
You should see water under the car.
4. Squirt a bit soapy water into the Evap: have a catch pan ready for water to come out.
5. Don't forget to re-connect the rubber hose.

My blower motor bearing was squealing on turns and I wasted a day looking for a bad wheel bearing then I felt the water on the floor. This thread helped me locate and unclog the drain tube quickly. The noise and water are gone and I will put it back together once it dries out a bit.
Thanks much to all

My car is a 2005 xc90. I am going to resurrect this thread b/c despite a lot of search I cannot understand how to find this drain clog. I have removed the trip and pulled back the carpet w/ foam backing. The only hose I see is what I believe to be the "cover draining hose". Am I too (somehow) remove/pull the hard black covering? I have attached some images of my car...any help would be appreicated. (I have already investigated the sun roof leak and rain cover seal below the cowl and I think this must be the cause of my leak). Also, the A/C is not blowing particularly cold...could this drain clog be the cause of poor A/C performance or is my evaporator just shot?)
The first pic is from the right side of the passenger footwell - and this has what I believe to be the cover draining hose"; the second picture is from the left where I thought the evaporator drain hose would be.

The 2nd pic shows the drain tube. Pull it and check it for blockage.
The AC not being as cold as it should probably just needs a refill, which you can easily do yourself with one of the cans from AutoZone.
