1996 850 GLT Fuel Filter Connector
Re: 1996 850 GLT Fuel Filter Connector
Update: turns out my self-repair $25 fuel filter and what should have been 30 minutes of labor has now turned into a full-on replacement of the fuel hose which is on national backorder at about $190 and a couple hours of labor to install by my mechanic. Both my mechanic and a favorite online Volvo parts shop confirmed the whole hose needs replacement. Bad luck on my part but advice to all - do not break off the connectors on the fuel filter.

- Fuel Filter nipple is standard 8-mm type.
- Get some 8-mm fuel hose for a few dollars at local parts store.
- To cut factory fuel hose, use plumbing pipe cutting wheel $5 tool at Home Depot).
- Then use barb connectors as erikv11 suggested.
No need to buy the whole new hose.
The other option is to pull a good hose from junk yard, flush it before installing.

The plumbing tool for cutting copper line would have been my choice as well; nice clean cut and just replace with a section of fuel hose.

Thank you to cn90 and others for reinforcing the splice solution. I pushed on my mechanic and all of a sudden yesterday I had a spliced piece of fuel line in the car. I am going to look at the setup as it is fuel line and some hose clamps. If I can post a picture I will and perhaps folks can let me know if there is anything else I should do to reinforce the connection.

I just went through the same thing. I couldn't beleive how easily the old hose snapped. I replaced mine with a piece of gas line and two clamps. I seems to be working fine for now. Maybe I'm missing someething but I will try it till something bad happens ( I hope not )

Nice photos, however, unless you know exactly how it was put together, you may want to verify it yourself.
This is because fuel hose is under high pressure when the car is running. Pressure is anywhere between 40-60 (or higher) psi.
I made a sketch below. Note...
- Three (3) clamps are good enough
- Barb connector
If this were my car, I would get an 8-mm barb connector (or something with similar O.D. to fit inside the rubber hose).. Take it apart, then put it together as shown...
