96 volvo 850R wire identification
what is this connector for ?, the one tied to my harness going into my coil ??

That would be the starter diagnostic connector. So you can crank the starter from the engine bay without turning the key.
I've never used it. Give the connector +12 V from the battery (preferably use a switch in the wire) and the starter will crank. It does still route through the PNP ... would be great for compression tests!

Complete agreement... I have used the one on my '97 855 and it definitely does engage and spin the starter when connected to the positive battery terminal.
