2001 S40 Removing the facia cover for demister etc.

Hi all. I'm new to this forum but i've read through it and theres seems to be lots of useful info around it. Could anyone give directions (pics extra helpful) on how to remove the facia panel as two bulbs appear to have blown or else their connections are loose. Many thanks.

Maybe the terminology is different here in the U.S. Can you give us a bit more information as to which cover you're referring to...demister?

Demister: heater that removes mist from the windshield of a car, pronounced dee-mister.

Apologies for the confusion. I've attached a link to a picture of the part of the facia that i'm referring to. Its got the yellow box around it. Thanks.

We call that the defroster in the U.S. The unit in your picture is the ECC (Electronic Climate Control). I'll take a look around and see if I find anything for your car. I do believe however that you have to get your radio out and then you can get the ECC panel off...at least this is the way it is on early S/V70's. Are there not two push in/pop out tabs on each side of the radio? If so, you might try this in order to slide the radio out. If not, like the newer V70's, you'll have to get the surround panel off under the radio to access it. But, like I said, I'll see if I can find anything specific to your car.

Terminology is so different. Wouldn't think we speak the same language at times.

The tool can be made from a piece of plastic, that's how I got mine.

Bill to the rescue! Do you know if the radio has to come out to do this or can it be done without it out? If I recall, on my wife's V70, 2 screws had to come out before using the bone tool to dislodge the climate control unit.

Nothing in the book to say remove the radio.

This must be a first on modern Volvos. Usually half the car has to be dismantled to do any simple job.

Yeah, S40's are different and possibly in a good way, especially for this repair.
