2007 V70 Right drive axle popping out of transmission

Post by Thames »

Hi all,

I have a strange issue with my 2007 V70, the right (passenger) drive axle is coming out of the transmission case by itself (about 1/2").

Probably that a circlip (snap ring) would be missing but where is it ? Is it the one inside the CV joint boot (inner) or that hold the axle in the transmission ?

There is no circlip on RH side. The bearing on that side that is carried by the retainer bolted to engine block is what holds the shaft into transmission.

Thank you mate, I got similar information in the last hours... I will remove the 2 nuts and inspect the bearing.

If the bearing is bad, I guess I'll have to remove the entire shaft, slip (read :press) a new bearing into place and put it all back in ?

The shaft should have no left-right movement beyond a few hundredths of a millimeter. The bearing does press on and is is likely not shown as serviceable but it is the same bearing as many of the 240's and 740's used as the middle of the rear driveshaft support bearing.

I removed the bearing support yesterday and the bearing itself is loose on the shaft, and of course, displaced.I cant slide it back in its original position, so we will have to remove it and put a new one back with press. My mechanic has done it recently on a V70R and all went fine.
