Can heater fan be removed from motor of '97 850 wagon?

Post by Pegs850 »

The wife's heater fan is squeeling (no big surprise) hence so is she (no big surprise either). I know a place that rebuilds motors very high quality at a reasonable price. Can the fan be removed from the motor without destroying the fan?

Is it difficult to get it out of the car? It looks like you just take the glove box liner out to get access to it?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Dave

You are correct on all accounts, but very few rebuild them. In fact, the squirrel cage that the blower fan/motor is in is such a pain that most replace the fan cage and all. If your guy can repair the motor, more power to him. Keep us informed as to how it goes.

Glove box and the knee bolster will get you there. It is not that difficult. If you are confident in your motor guy then yes the squirrel cage blower can be removed. It is a PITA but it can be done. An aftermarket unit with the squirrel cage included is US $115 at FCP Groton so it is a judgement call on your part.

Fix it sooner rather than later before you blow the blower resistor.

hehe! but you always add some other very good information. Maybe we should work as a team. Are you fat? We could start our own radio program...."The two fat Volvo guys"

Oh, by the way, I type very fast.

Hello all-
I forgot to ask. Does the motor come apart? Do you know if the bearings are ball bearings or bushings?
Thanks
