'06 S60R Caliper Bleeder Valve Replacement
Thought I would replace the brake fluid since it looks more like maple syrup than DOT4. When I went to close a bleeder valve, it got rounded - in the open position! I figure I might as well replace all eight of them but they seem rather expensive if I go with Volvo parts - about 15 bucks a piece. A lot of interweb posts suggest I can save a ton of cash if I go generic but no one that I have found indicates the size/thread count for these things. Can anyone help?

If you take one of the old ones to the auto parts store you should be able to match it up to a new one.
If any of the old ones are not rounded and the threads aren't rusted beyond hope, I'd clean them up and re-use them. They're probably better quality than any generics you'll find.

... and there's the rub; if I take one out, I won't be able to stop at the parts store

If you remove a bleeder screw and don't want all the brake fluid draining while it is out all you need do i depress brake pedal 1 inch or more and hold it there with a stick or other item wedged between pedal and front of seat.

Were you planning to drive it to the parts house with one bleeder stuck open?

I was able to close the valve with a socket. Just looking for the specifications of the thing.

If I remember well, not much luck to find a replacing part other than the one from the dealer or, better idea, look over Ebay, maybe some breaker sells the nipple individually.
