1998 S70 T5 -- 280mm 288mm same thing?

Post by mar601 »

I see some brake kits, even some listed on the same web page (https://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/S70 ... =213&e=152) that say 280mm and some listings that say 288mm.

I have a 98 S70 T5 -- can I get either 280 or 288 -- are they referring to the same thing?

They are different and you need to replace things in sets. You can't mix and match calipers and rotors between the two sizes. If you are just looking to replace parts you need to match what you have.

I don't intend to -- I want to buy a brake kit (all 4 wheels) but the 280 and 288 throw me -- they must mean the same thing after all only 8mm

They are NOT the same thing. Your calipers will not fit, at least properly, if you get the wrong ones.

If you look at the contents of their "288MMBK4" kit, it mentions that it comes with Brembo 09556821 rotors which is a 280mm rotor

I think it's a misnamed kit and they are essentially the same thing.

The real question is, if you have a '98 S70 T5, why *wouldn't* you go for the 302mm rotors?

Just to clarify, you only need the larger front caliper bracket to fit the larger rotors. You use the same caliper and the rest of the stuff, the bracket allows the caliper to sit at a wider point.
