Interesting,
When I did mine (1998 V70 NA), I used the Outer for Inner as a trial and it worked. I might be wrong though.
If someone has an axle lying around and can measure the dimension of Inner Axle (diameter 1 and diameter 2) and post them, it'd be great. Once you have the axle dimension, you can find a closely related boot to match.

Calling all Volvo enthusiasts, does anybody have a Turbo axle laying around, can you measure either the inner boot (preferable) or inner CV joint dimensionscn90 wrote:Interesting,

When I did mine, based on what I misunderstood on this site, I ordered four 300439 kits thinking that they would fit inner as well as outer. They fit great on the outer, but were way, way too big for the inner. I thought it was my mistake because I used an ebay seller with a too-good-to-be-true price, and wrote it off to confusion following the multiple threads I read.
But reading this, it appears that my turbo has the larger outer joints, so there would be 18mm difference to make up on the inner side. With an NA, there is only 10mm to make up. I wasn't expecting a perfect fit on the inners and expected there to be a gap to clamp shut. If I had an NA the gap would had been about 5mm all around, I might have tried it clamping it shut....as it was I reused the inner boots.
If nobody chimes in sooner, I'll measure my inner's next time I'm under the car...

I think the solution is much easier than trying to buy Audi parts which I was not successful doing. My parts supplier can only get a 300517 for an Audi 100.
So what I did was purchase the Rein cv kit which includes inner and outer for Turbo.
I measured The inner boot and it matches what is listed for 300427 and 300597, perfectly. The outer boot has a different diameter which is why you need GKN 300439
So this begs the question, why not use 300427. Isn't that what you use for the outer cv boot for NA models? And this is why cn90 said use it for both.
Why go through all this trouble, the GKN boot is definitely better: thicker rubber and more pliable. It also comes with a new nut. I'm hoping to get this resolved before the weekend, and my head is tired sorting through all this different info, but it will be worth it for all of us.

Hey sorry I missed this one. I am not familiar with the 300516 pn.mecheng wrote:Northernlights: The part supplier said the GKN number is 300516 for a 1994 Audi 100s.
Ring a bell?
Pelican Parts has the Audi Inner GKN boot kit under this part number:
893-498-201-B-M60
Like I mentioned earlier, I used a 1994 Audi 100 S Sedan as the crossover for the inner CV boot. This is what I used on my Inner joint on a automatic turbo axle.

Excellent found it, finally! I think what I mentioned above using the NA boot for inner will work but upon close inspection I'd rather use an inner boot for the inner like your solution. There are major differences in the design besides the size. See picsnorthernlights wrote:Hey sorry I missed this one. There is definitely a difference between the GKN/Lobro parts and the generic aftermarket. That's why I took some time to try and figure out how to make the GKN parts work! I hope Pelican ships to Canada, as I think you will like the parts. If not use the part number for an Ebay search and you should find something. I suspect the part number I provided is the OEM Audi number or something similar.
The aftermarket stuff does seem less substantial, plus there are visual differences in the internal features where the boots clamp over the shaft and CV joint. It's one of these things where they look mostly the same, but because they are copies the small details are different.
Same thing with respect to materials. Who knows how appropriate the choice of the boot elastomer is with the generic stuff, if the grease they provide is fully compatible with it and lubricates a CV joint as it should, etc. You will notice that the GKN boots come with GKN grease, not some random wagon-wheel stuff!
Those details are the things that GKN/Lobro probably spent a bunch of time and money engineering, and I have to believe that they know more about it than the companies trying to clone their products in the same factory that might also make toasters.

In my DIY axle boot (see link below), initially I used the Rein kit (which has both Inner and Outer boots), after some 25K miles, the Rein boots develop minor cracks w/o grease leak yet. After I saw those cracks in Rein boots, I ordered GKN boots and it is the OEM supplier for Volvo. GKN boot is thick, solid and should last some 80K-100K.

As mentioned in my DIY above re INNER boot...I don't know why GKN does not make the INNER boot available in the US. If you search ebay in Germany (ebay.de, they sell the INNER PN 31256225 for about $15 in Germany).
To settle this issue, since this is a BIG job (a lot of labor and hassle etc.), if you want simple life (well you can use the Audi boot), then head to local Volvo dealer and buy PN 31256225 for $32 and done with.
