98 C70 AWD conversion

Post by VolvLowC70 »

I came across the idea of making my recently bought 98 c70 AWD, however, this looks like I might be bitting off more than I would be able to chew. I am new to the volvo scene but have been working on cars and trucks for quite some time now. I figured the V70 AWD setup could be swapped over, but I am now having second thoughts as it looks as if there is no room for the rear diff on the c70. If you have any info on this topic please let me know what kind of fabrications will be required. I am able to cut, grind and weld if necessary, just not sure if it is worth it. Your comments are much appreciated.

There are tons of differences between the AWD versions and the FWD versions of the S and V series cars and I honestly don't know how different the underside of the C70 is from the sedan and wagon counterparts. I've never actually touched a C70. Beyond swapping over the entire rear suspension and wedging in the transfer case the fuel tank and the exhaust system are also totally different on the AWD S and V series and I'm sure they would need to be modified. My guess is that the floorpan would also need to be radically changed to make room.

I'm not going to say it can't be done since with enough time, money, and creativity I think about anything can be done but it would about as close to impossible as anything I could think of. It is certainly beyond practicality.
