'98 V70 Ignition Switch - Key Side

I know I've been living on borrowed time with the mechanical portion of my ignition switch. I get a strobe light show from the dash lights when driving at night. Now the chime alarm will sound with the key removed from the ignition from time to time. Any guesses as to how long I might have left before I absolutely need to replace the key side of the switch?

I had this problem with an 850 and it got to the point where I had to jiggle the key to start the car. I'm not there yet with the V70, but . . .

I wrote a detailed procedure in forum on how to replace the tumbler.

The tumbler is about $260+ from dealer.

Or use the ghetto screwdriver trick.

Yeah -- I guess I already knew the answer to that one. Just not looking to drop that coin right now.

In the DIY that I wrote, I was playing the old tumbler but didn't have much time.
My thinking at the time was: somehow gut the entire tumbler to make it a faked tumbler.
So when you insert the key, it is a direct connection between the faked tumbler and the electrical portion on the L of the steering column. But I never got around to gut the tumbler.

If anyone here has gutted the tumbler, please post...
