1997 850 Odometer INTERMITENT

Post by fisker247 »

Gents/Ladies,
239,327 miles and not counting correctly!

So I have been behind the dash and dissected the odometer 3 times now, first was to replace the little failed gear (thanks IPD). Here is the data I have for you and by god I will be amazed if this gets rectified.

DIGITAL Odometer, in info bar below speedometer, works 100%
Mechanical works when it wants to. Probably operational about 80% of time
Seems to miss about 23 miles when it wants to.
Only seems to fail after car shutdown (just won't start rolling next time until it wants to, witnessed mid driving)

Inspected all gears, lubed them with aviation lube.

My only 2 thoughts are, 1) screws are too tight on magnetic housing anyone experience this?? 2) one of the rotation magnetic parts is now too weak to move the inner magnet?? I DID witness that when i took it apart it seemed the inner tube (dark brown) magnet needed some push to start free wheeling...

THANKS IN ADVANCE FORUMS!!
