I'm replacing my e-brake cable and it has an 'O' ring that fits somewhere at the wheel end of the cable. I can't see where it fits. There is no recess in the tube feeding into where the cable is held in place by the clip, and the 'O' ring is too large to fit in the hole any way. In fact is seems to be too large all together. Only place I can see it may fit is between the flange of the end of the cable outer sleeve and the back plate to kind of act as a slight tensioner on the cable sleeve to hold the clip in place. Otherwise I can't see what purpose it serves as it won't act as a water seal as water can get in from the rotor side and in the slot for the retaining clip. Can anyone enlighten me please.

I am taking pictures as I go to do a write up. I know there is already an excellent one done, but there are slight differences from the 98 V70XC I had and the 2000 V70R. So I can either write an addendum, or it can be used in it's entirety. I will also cover a few omissions for those of us who may not be as knowledgeable.

Thanks,

Neil.

Any pics yet? I know I replaced e-brake cables, I stared at the hub assembly for a long time. It took me forever to figure out how to get the clip off near the wheel to slide the old cable out.

What brand of cable? The R model is most likely different from my XC

This looks like your cable: http://volvopartslisle.com/part/OEM-Vol ... rake-Cable
Please check with your VIN on their website to make sure it's the correct PN
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

Sorry for taking time to get back on this. The link is the correct one for the car, and have had the parts guys at the dealer double check it. Ended up with 2 experienced mechanics, 2 parts guys and the Service manager and I talking it over and have come to the conclusion the drawing is wrong. The part although listed (part #17) does not fit this application. Some of the cable versions have a plastic flange on the end of the cable and there is an 'o' ring that acts as a dust shield that sits between the back plate and the cable flange. The cable on the 2000 R I own, slides into the back plate so there is no provision for the 'o' ring as it would serve no purpose. Cables are Volvo OE from Tasca. So $5 wasted on un-required 'O' rings.

Thanks for the help guys!

Happy Christmas to all that celebrate it!
