...is a keyless entry car remote alarm. It looks like this http://www.keylessentryremotefob.com/ELVAT8C_PROOE2_Factory_OEM_KEY_FOB_Keyless_Entry_C_p/elvat8c%20prooe2.htm
The remote itself uses A27 - a 12Volt battery to operate.
Lately, the alarm has stopped making noise when it goes OFF, but the headlights will blink.
The locking/unlocking has become erratic so much that I now use Volvo key to lock/unlock.
The remote has new battery.
Is keyless FOB a repairable item, simple programming of sorts?

The car was parked on street last night.
This morning, the key would not turn to unlock.
I imagined it to be from the overnight frost after the rain, hence used the heat gun with a very long extension cord over the keyhole for few minutes. I worked!
Now I was able put the key to ignition POS 1 and test the actuators. Each actuator functions as normal from the lock/unlock button at the dashboard.
Does eliminating actuator narrows the issue to my keyless entry remote?
There are two buttons on keyless entry remote. The frequently used one does not feedback with click like feel, but the small red signal lights up each time. Comparing it to the not so used button, which makes obvious click like feedback.
The alarm system is older than cell phones, smart phones, iPhone, and modern wireless devices, could it be frequency/band interference?
I will check on Loose Alarm Nut, but where?

I would like to understand it and then restore the Keyless FOB.
Here are three photos to help make sense of it.
Item marked 3 was recently purchased from eBay seller. It needs programming.
1 is damaged, 2 works some time. I am using key to lock/unlock the car. A pin like switch near hood lever. Not sure, but assuming it is part of FOB since it is wired. What does it do? A view of engine. 1 sensor, 2 a vertical pin with spring like it goes up and down, not sure what it does, 3 a horn like object (car horn works)

That doesn't look like the factory-fitted alarm system – the fobs and alarm horn look different, and the factory system doesn't have the switch by the hood release, or the pin that you mentioned. The alarm horn nut mentioned is probably not relevant in your case.
The 'sensor' is the unused connector for the factory alarm horn. The pin is there to trigger the alarm if somebody tries to open the hood (the factory system has a sensor in the hood latch instead). The switch by the hood release is probably something to do with disabling or resetting the alarm. Years ago, I had a car with an aftermarket alarm, and it had a hidden switch that (I think) would let you disarm the alarm if the fob stopped working.

+1 - That's not stock. It may have never had a factory
alarm in the first place, or it's possible that someone
has "upgraded" it. Possibly even added a remote start.
If you wish to restore it's operation, the first step I would
suggest would be to identify the make and model. You'll
probably find it's central module up in the dash near the
left hand side of the steering column.
From there, you should be able to find the information
you need online, like owners and/or installation manuals.
As for the intermittent locks, they often behave differently
as they begin to fail. Generally, the warmer it is, the more
often they have problems. Any connection with temperature?

Thank you for providing clues.
I am the the first owner, so looked in to the purchase record file, and found this warranty paper along with a user manual. It is Audiovox Pursuit. The manual refers to a valet switch, I am assuming it is that pin near the hood lever. Now I need to figure out valet switch ON/OFF position.
It has remote starter, did not know.

After reading the materials and instructions -- some online -- the switch in the photo is indeed a valet switch. It is a toggle kind, but not sure of OFF and ON. The LED in valet setting should stay ON -- something is not working.
What is ignition key ON, pos 0, I or II?

Position I or II would be considered ignition key ON. Electrically, positions I and II overlap but if this is to energize the circuit for the remote start then it is position II.xHeart wrote:What is ignition key ON, pos 0, I or II?

Every toggle switch that I've ever seen is notched for the
installation of a legend plate that indicates it's position.
You pic doesn't show it, but on the back side of the threaded
portion, you'd find a notch milled from one end to the other.
That indicates the open or "Off " postion.
In your pic, the valet switch is on.
