I have been having this issue for a couple days now, but nothing is working for me.
Everybody says that the axle should pop out, sometimes easily, sometimes with a bit of prying.
Nothing has worked so far.
We used a puller, we tried to pry it out, then we actually pried so hard that the cup completely sheared off from the end of the axle.
Then we drilled a hole in the still embedded axle end, threaded it with a tap and die, put a bolt in it and designed a nut,bolt, and cup tool that we could gradually tighten and still couldn't remove it. It actually stretched some pretty large bolts!
This thing is impossible to pull.
This leads me to believe that there is something more serious going on here.
Found this on another forum:
"Had this happen on my Honda Odyssey, turned out that the seal had separated and the backside slipped down over the C-clip and just inside the bore that the CV fits into. They had to take the trans out and split the case..."
Could this be the problem? Is opening the trans my only option? I couldn't do that myself and I'm running out of funds for this repair.
Any ideas?

I was able to remove it and complete the repair.
I made a slide hammer with 3ft of all-thread with pvc to cover it, a couple nuts and 5 washers as a stopper, and a 5 lb. dumbbell weight from goodwill as a slide.
Screwed it into the threads we made, and popped that sucker out first try!
It was quite rusty but that's all that was wrong.
Put plenty of grease on the new axle, installed it and it works like a charm.
Now I'm thinking about making a pig's foot for the end of my new slide hammer to use in the future.

Ok I just ran into this problem. I tried numerous pry bars, screw drivers, slide hammer with attachment for pulling inner CV joints (wouldn't work for me, couldn't get it to fit since the gap between trans case and the outdrive was too narrow) all of which would not work. Finally I spent a long time researching this, and found someone that used a 5/8 craftsman chisel. I wasn't able to find that exact chisel locally (sears stocks hardly anything any more), but I did buy a cheap $6 wood chisel set out of the sale bin and it worked. I used the half inch, put it at the base of the trans and outdrive give it three moderate taps and the outdrive popped out like a key releasing a lock. Something about the angle of the chisel since it forces the tool against the surface of the trans case and the chisel angle pushes the outdrive out and away from the trans. I couldn't believe that such a simple tool could do the trick.
Give it a try and let us know if it works for you.
