Resetting Engine System Service Required message

You either need to get friendly with a Volvo shop and have them read the codes with a fancy reader or get your hands on a BSR PPC1 reader. It's pretty much a Volvo specific reader. I don't think they make them anymore but you might be able to find one on ebay. They're not cheap, I bought mine for $250-$300, but it helps a ton.

Ebay DICE is now near $100 which is another option.

After living with the "Engine System Service Required" message that's on and off for nearly 2 years, I finally got it to happen again while the car was in the garage today. They scanned the code and only found, "ECM 9400 Brake Pedal sensor signal too high." Why is this related to Engine System? I am confused. Also, what exactly does 9400 code mean? Brake, cruise control??? I'd be happy if it was only related to cruise control cuz I find it uneasy when my foot is not on gas/brake pedal.

Although I'm over the pond, this is my first post on this forum and no, I didn't check other threads before posting but having found what may be useful info regarding the thread title, it may be of use to all Swedespeed owners, though with respect to the posted info below, I've yet to try Option 1 and with respect to Option 2, I've added my own remarks below that:

Option 1

Engine System Service Required message re-set. Ensure all doors are closed, turn the ignition key to position 1 (accessories), press and hold the trip reset button and immediately turn the ignition key to position 2 (ignition). Keep the trip reset depressed until the service message has been re-set (a yellow 'info' light will illuminate) then release the trip reset button within 4 seconds and you'll hear a beep when the re-set is complete. This doesn't always work on the first try so you may have to repeat the process several times.

Option 2

Instead of an expensive Vadis system, there are many after-market tools available. Look for the Torque Pro app (or similar) for your smartphone (free Lite version or buy the Pro version). Buy one of the cheap ELM 327 OBD2 Bluetooth fault reader modules which fits in the OBD2 socket, pair to your smartphone and run the Torque Pro (or similar) app and look at the multiple parameters AND even with the Torque Pro Lite (free) app version, you can clear ALL fault codes and is a very low cost way to see/clear fault codes and many other things.

I've ordered an ELM 327 OBD2 module via a well known auction site (item: 253902531410) and downloaded the Torque Pro Lite app (free) so in the meantime I'll try Option 1 and report my findings in addition to Option 2 in due course, though if anyone does likewise, I'm sure it would be of interest to us all. Hopefully either or both methods work, and there's a lot of info about this online and no doubt on YouTube as well.

Your option 1 seems to be for resetting the message for regular service. It's not for clearing error codes. Engine system service required is not the same as the regular service reminder, it's a message saying you've got error codes stored that need to be looked at.

As for option 2 only a limited subset of error codes can be read and cleared on these cars using generic code readers. This may be enough for a lot of purposes but it's worth keeping in mind. You will likely also not be able to see if a code is stored but not active which can be very helpful for intermittent errors.
