Yes i know!I read about that too but i wonder if anyone else had a success with that.I'm affraid to mess something up.I'll try to find it.

I think i'm not going to do this "sas delete".It's complicated to me and i'm afraid that i'll mess something up.I'll just pick air pump and sas valve from some junk yard(used) and replace it,if i get lucky to find any.

I had a problem related to emitions for about a year, and several mechanics could not figure out what was the deal. It turned out that black hose was leaking (the one which goes from air pump to sas valve). If ur air pump is not working just replace it with used one, and i guess and u should be fine.

I needed to resurrect this thread after all these years.

So...i did sas delete today and soldered a diode 1N4007(it's the only one i could find) instead of 1N4003 from A32 towards A37,unplugged the air pump connector and left everything else in place.

I spoke to my electrician about that diode and he said that it's doing the same job like 1n4003 but it's capable to manage higher current.

Capped free port on a vacuum tree which was removed many years ago because ONLY with that port opened car didn't run rich and didn't had black smoke from the exhaust.

Sas valve was completelly removed from the car few years ago when i replaced flex pipe and it's connection on the engine plugged.Also a purple vacuum line plugged in the same time.

Removed dashboard and instrument panel to replace a bulb for check engine light which burned few weeks ago after 14years

of being constantly ON because of bad sas system.

I drove the car tonight,no check engine YET,runs beautifully(like before),but i can tell that it's running rich AGAIN!

No black smoke from the exhaust YET,but it smell very rich.The odour i didn't smell for years is back again.

If i would remove the cap from vacuum tree like before and make a vacuum leak,the exhaust smell would go back to normal again,but i will leave it for a few days to see if black smoke will come back.

I'm pretty sure that it will come back,but i'll wait and see.

To resume this:
-when no vacuum leak car runs rich.
-when i make vacuum leak removing the cap from a free port on vacuum tree,car is not running rich and exhaust smell is there to confirm.

Idles fine,runs great,engine performance great,fuel consumption is the same like the first day i bought it(up to today).

If the black smoke comes back again...i'll just remove the cap from vacuum tree and forget about this.

Suggestions & advices are more than welcome.

Reaching for ideas here: Has the car been using the same ECT all these years? I wonder if it could be sending a signal for a slightly low temp, i.e. a defective ECT.
