Shifter stuck in Park

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Shifter stuck in Park

Post by kyngofpop »

Does anyone know a way to or why my shifter is stuck in Park? Earlier it was stuck having only Neutral and Drive but I managed to somehow get it to move up into P(ark) and now it won't move at all? When I press the brake I can see and hear the shift interlock move but the shifter wind budge.

I already ordered a new shifter but need to at least get the car home. Please help.

This sounds like ignition switch problem. This may help https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55868

I figured it out. Just took the shaft out and it magically moved. Gna replace the shifter assembly altogether.

Mine did the same thing, turns out the shifter cable lubricant dried up. Replaced it for around $30 and haven't have an issue since.
