Re: 2001 v70 t5 cam pulley position
Taking a second look at your pics it looks like you're spot on with front marks, rear slots also, only problem is vvt all the way clockwise. I'd adjust vvt such that when 8mm screws are mid-slots the sproket mark lines up to cover. If you lock back slots then your vvt sproket mark shoud be just before 12 o'clock (cover mark) if adjusted correctly. Then if you turn clockwise by hand it should go to 12 o'clock.

Thanks for all the help it really has been spot on, unfortunately its all been for nothing, got the timing bang on with the help of the cam/crank locking kit and cvvt adjusted perfectly thanks to draser's advice.
With the 2 codes I recieved today though im thinking its the end of the road, p0121 and p1608 I was prepared to replace the throttle body more so after removing the starter when I locked the crank and making sure that pesky cable was freed from behind it, the last code though from what I've read on the fault code list on this site (thanks again) is an ecu malfuntion which from what I understand could be the root of all the problems but even if i spend ££££ to replace it still might need a new throttle body or might not, big gamble so im moving on im affraid, cheers again. Those codes are pretty clear ETM problems, not ECU.
Does your car have the original white label ETM on it still?

Your ETM can have a contactless DIY repair. Only costs $135 approximately for the sensor and fit as below:
Use this thread as a guide but just stick to 1st 2 pages, in particular page 2 because Yehuda went to far too much disassembly

Yes etm has white lable and thanks for the correct information on these codes, translating them does seem to be a bit of a pickle.
I do have a new code to add which is p1652 and again the first translation I found was ecm internal fault but further looking I found it means safety fuel cut off, I hoping this is part of the reduced performance operation.
I'm looking into the xemodex etm units and have found a few second hand but I do have some questions about these.
I've read that if I replace the etm I can avoid the reprograming/calibration by volvo if I use one from the same model, if this is true does that mean turbo to turbo, N/A to N/A or is it more specific as in same engine displacement?
I looked at xemodex website and they say there units are plug and play, so If I got a xemodex etm off a any turbo model I should be ok is this right? Or say for instance I put an N/A xemodex etm on a turbo will it work or can it be calibrated to work?
I've also considered the bosch etm off the later 03 models but again unsure about if it will need calibrating or if it will even work.
Once I have a replacement etm on the manifold I will for sure start to dismantle the current etm and attempt to fit a contactless sensor so thanks for the link it's going to be more than useful.
Few reasons why I'm going this route is a. I can't afford to have something go wrong and the car being off road for more than a weekend and b. If I can get hold of a xemodex I will be able to keep that unit and hopefully (if I can repair old etm) if down the road I sell the car I can install the old etm with the contactless sensor and keep the xemodex unit to use in my next volvo as I'm sure I will be sticking with them, thanks again.

Xemodex will supply the correct programming by your VIN.
An ETM from a car with different aspiration can't be adapted without a visit to a dealer or a specialist programmer. Nor can a Bosch throttle be adapted AT ALL.
A 36050563 throttle has already been programmed for LPT turbos. I'm not sure if the programming will suit your T5.

Hi new guy here...
can you tell me if this would be the same set up for a (cvvt) 2002 v70 xc 2.4L?
I removed the cvvt and the intake sprocket to replace the seals, I was so sure I marked everything after lining up all the marks and installed the rear cam locking tool.
Now its all back together new belt, tensioner, idler.
But the only way the belt will go on is with the exhaust cam with the cvvt going back counter clock wise one tooth... No matter what try....
What the Heck am I doing wrong??
thanks Jay
