Question regarding seat belt chime on 93 Volvo 850

My seat belt chime started ringing and won't stop, even if I buckle seat belt on drivers side. Chime will only stop when I turn off ignition. Just started acting like this recently. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Does your seatbelt light remain illuminated after you buckle up as well or is it just the chime that won't turn off?

I just checked and the seat belt sign does not come on but the chime continally rings once ignition is turned on.

I also noted that the interior side lights by the doors on both sides in the front stay on too. I'm now wondering if it is a "key left in ignition" chime or door ajar chime. Could something other than the seat belts be causing the chime to come on and if so how could I identify what it is?

The seatbelt chime, the key left in ignition chime, and the door ajar chime are all the same thing. If you want to shut it up you can remove relay number 212. It is located in the relay center just below the dash on the drivers side of the car, left of the steering column. The relay is usually blue in color and it has slots cut into the top of it.

Check fuses number 15, 17, and 28.

At the end of the day it sounds like either;

a) Your doors are not all shut or

b) You have a bad door switch and it thinks you have a door that isn't shut.

I really appreciate your assistance with this. I checked the fuses and they are ok. Where would the door switch be located? Is it inside the rubber housing by the door hinge? Or does it take a mechanic to get to it?

this will ring if your security system is not getting power.. if its not the fuse something is grounding.

Go underneath your drivers side dash and look for a blue relay with some slots cut in the top. its your seatbelt reminder chime. I could have gone on the fritz too. Its in location 212

My 'key left in ignition chime' rings when the key is removed. I have had the dealer try to fix it; they said I woud have to replace the whole steering column. Naturally it would cost $$$$, so I have put up with it ALL THIS TIME.

Do you think removing relay 212 would shut the darned thing up??

Relay 212 is where the noise emanates from. I guarantee that it will shut it up if you remove it. It has no other bad effects on the car until you lock your keys inside the car.

errr i mean does a relay make a noise if its not there ?

I suspect it is really just a buzzer and not a relay. It may look like a relay.
