'98 V70 -- Slight hitch in driver's interior door pull

Post by E Showell »

I noticed a slight hitch developing in the driver's side interior door pull on the '98 V70. Feels like the chrome door pull is fetching up on the plastic surround. Anybody experience this before? Is this a sign of impending death of the door pull or something else?

Hi Evan,

If I understand what you are saying, the 'chrome' part of the handle is rubbing on the surrounding plastic it sits in?

It is a pain, but removing the door panel will be the easiest way to figure out what is going on. It could be as easy as just needing lubed. There is a plastic clip that holds the cable from the handle to the lock mechanism that may have jumped out or broken, or even just try re-positioning the door card might be all that is going on.

Be very careful prising the plastic surround off around the interior pull handle as it has long clip legs on it that like to snap. You will also probably break a few of the door card plastic clips as they go brittle. I collect these from PnP when I see any panels and try to keep a few on hand.

Neil.

It was, indeed as I suspected -- the impending death of the door pull. Today while running errands, I pulled on the chrome interior door pull and it did not move. It is obviously broken. Fortunately, I can still lower the window and use the exterior door handle to open the door. It appears as though the interior door pull will need to be replaced. Anybody done that before? (I now have a matching set of front door problems as the passenger door only opens from the inside.)

Sounds like you might need some parts. Not new, by any means, but let me know if I can help.

Shane -- I may hit you up, but I have to get the door panel off to see what's going on. In the meantime, check your PMs, as I did have another parts request.
