2000 S70 P1171 Code
2000 S70 P1171 Code
Hello, I am new to this forum and recently aquired a 2000 S70 AWD Volvo, The car has had the emissions light on for approx a year. The code pulled indicates a P1171 DTC. Through internet researching I was going to pull and clean the MAF sensor but was told this could end up costing me $1200 and car might not run after the cleaning. I also found something that looks like a canister with hoses attached located under the rear portion of the car with tape holding one of the hoses on. This cannister looks hard to access, any help would be appreciated

You can always try cleaning the MAF with some MAF cleaner/spray first. You can search for that on here as well as other troubleshooting methods.
Changing the MAF should run you about 200-300 bucks. Get OEM ONLY for this part. Swapping should be pretty straight forward
Although from past readings the 1171 may refer to the canister purge valve (near your taped up area?) and the 1172 refers to MAF.
I would start with MAF spray and research replacing canister purge valve. I am not familiar with purge valve prices or procedures, doubt it is more than a MAF, but is likely harder to replace. also search this site.

The canister with the taped on hoses is probably the a EVAP container and will trip your engine light. You need to fix that, clear codes, and drive for a week to reset the monitors.agreenwo wrote:Hello, I am new to this forum and recently aquired a 2000 S70 AWD Volvo, The car has had the emissions light on for approx a year. You can replace the MAF yourself in about 15 minutes. Bosch only.

Thanks a lot for reply's. I did a bit more snooping under the hood and found most vacuum hoses are in poor shape, the device attached to the side of the air box right near the MAF has cracked. A lot of these hoses look almost impossible to get to to replace, also noticed the head gasket appears to be weeping oil a bit. Thanks again
