Hello
This is my first post. My 2004, V 70 with 75,000 miles.
The car is at the dealer now. A tech took it out for a drive and did not have my experience happen.
When the gas tank is about half empty, when I make a turn and not concentrating to keep my foot on the gas, the car will die halfway into the turn. Before the car dies, the steering will be very stiff.
This is steadily increasing as time goes on. The car has died a few times when I was going in a straight direction, but mostly, the car will die when making a turn--either right or left .
Please, please I would appreciate having your experience as I have to have this issue fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance

When it dies does it start instantly or does it take a little cranking over before it starts?
The warning lights coming on is delayed. The hard steering occurs when the engine speed falls to 250 rpm or less.
No check engine light or any messages in the message display?

Thanks for your response.
The car will start up with no problems. No warning light at first, then, my ck. Engine light is on and stayed on.
The second page of this forum had the same question. I assume you can go to the same page.
The question was asked in 2009--then, later dates. Not sure how the dates work as there were some
2015 responses.
It was with a S... model, not the V 70, but most of the replies had the same experience--car dies while making a turn.
" I've done some research on the forum and (maybe b'c I'm desperately seeking) but I think my problem may be the ETM (electronic throttle module)? "
There was discussion about the ETM. So, maybe this is the answer.

No italian ETM on your car so not a problematic year for throttles.
If non turbo the car may have a Hitachi throttle. If turbo will be a Bosch throttle.
If check engine light is on you need a diagnostic scanner reading immediately. Restarting 4 times with no error will clear the code leaving the dealer with no clues.
If you have an Android device you can buy a cheap ELM327 device (under $25) and use the bluetooth to communicate via an application called Torque.

Thank you. Mike.
I will be forwarding your reply to the Volvo dealer here.
Please give exact instructions to the Service manager because I don't have the time and money for them to figure out what is wrong.
I really, really appreciate your assistance.
Carol

The advice given was meant for the end user so you can track down the error AS IT OCCURS.
Taking the car to a service department armed with some diagnostic codes under your belt will yield far more results than my speaking or communicating with them about what it COULD be.
That's why I suggested getting a cheap scanning device so you can scan the car WHILE YOU HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
I often have ETMs (throttles) landing on my doorstep from uninformed customers who have read a little on the internet about potential issues when the problem lay with something totally different. They spend good money on disassembly, inspection, rewriting of firmware to suit the road test vehicle and final reassembly. In some cases they spend further by insisting on an unecessary contactless conversion.
Without results from a diagnostic scan you and your service department are working blind unless the fault happens to occur while the vehicle is with the service department.
