Wheel bearings were noisy, steering rack leaking, alternator on borrowed time, AC compressor gone, axles boot cracks, front seats are all torn, steering wheel peeling off, transmission on borrowed time. Just awful, awful and awful!
I would argue that the comparison is moot. 5rivers' car is, by his account, well-cared for and in good shape.

I agree that if one is buying a used specimen, 330k is a lot.

I have found a 1998 S70 turbo. My question now is would the valves from this motor fit/work in my '98 V70?

In my area, you can buy a T5 S70 for $1000-$2000 depending on the seller with 200-300k Kilometers (not miles) so I agree that you may be throwing good money at bad and as long as you know that; emotional attachments do count more for some than others.

They will fit and work great! You may want confirmation from someone other than me I understand that, try giving a PM to Ozark Lee or Mike (precopster) or jimmy57, they (and others of course) know these engines well.

I am no expert, but I remember somewhere that the valves are different for NA vs Turbo models.

Yes, Turbo uses Sodium filled exhaust valves and they have a special coating

Thanks abscate!

I am also wondering about the 'cam followers' - do these need to be cleaned at all or just kept in oil before installation? They do appear quite intricate. Appreciate all thoughts on this!

Hydraulic lifters I always pull them out and directly immerse them in oil, leave them that way until its time to reassemble. That's the book procedure, have not head of anyone cleaning them. Also, I keep track of where they cam from and return them back to the same place, again by the book.

I do the same as Erikv11. I bought a few of those plastic divided trays at Harbor Freight and I just label the lid above each division with the cylinder and valve location. The location isn't critical and it really doesn't mean much if you are replacing the head but it is just a "good practice".
