As the title states, its just dead. No fan, no heat, no a/c. I checked the two fuses in the engine compartment and they are fine. If I play with it long enough I get a green light saying the A/C is on and vent is on recirculate, but all buttons are unresponsive.
Background- son drove last night and it worked. Complained of an odor with A/C on. We have had a lot of rain and car has not been driven much, so I went out this more and sprayed a little bleach cleaner in the vents (I do this on my land cruiser). Went out two hours later and nothing. For the record, it had just rained about an hour before and I did not bother to turn on the A/C prior to spraying. Could it be excess water getting into the ventilation system? I've done the disinfectant in the vents before without issue, but could that have been it as well?

Are you spraying in the vents on the dash? If so, don't see how that would get to controller. It's said you can pop out the controller after removing the radio (HAVE CODE BEFORE REMOVING RADIO). Check the connections. You may be getting power to some, but not all parts. Clean the connections.

Start your car and watch the LEDS on the ECC control unit. Do they start flashing after about 10 seconds?? Wait at least one minute

Well it appears I am the culprit. I pulled the climate control from my V70 and installed it in the S70. Climate Control fired right up. Plus, when I removed the climate control from the S70, it smell like cleaner...apparently it leaked down onto the climate control unit. I am going to give it a few days to dry out, but I have a feeling I am going to be purchasing a new unit.

Is there any way to help rid the A/C system of the smell? My '99 is pretty bad and something needs to be done. The nine year old grandson said my car smells like an old rental car.abscate wrote:I did forget to say... Stop spraying crap into your vents, too.

I hope to try that this weekend and see what's up. I'm guessing air on high and a light mist?volvooh wrote:I would say to spray into the air intakes by the windshield wipers.

There should not be any smell. I live in a hot humid coastal climate, and neither car smells. Is your condensation drain backing water up into the evaporator? Do you have a cabin filter installed to prevent dirt and organics from getting into the evaporator housing? If there is a musty odor it's probably coming from around the evaporator--at least that's my experience from owning Fords. FCP sells a charcoal cabin filter that some have reported improved air freshness.
