1996 Volvo 850 GLT O2 Sensor connector clip mounting

Post by lesduc »

First off, hello, and thanks for this site! It's been a great resource.

I'm replacing O2 sensors and see my connectors (the ones with red top) are just dangling there. Looking at other photos on the nets, like the one attached, they appear to be mounted/attached on one side to the metal bracket.

How does this work? Anyone have an exploded view or a part # that shows what holds these in place?

thx

You have guides on the connector itself.Just slide it onto metal bracket.

Is the guide the little clip on the sensor-side connector, slightly visible in the pic? The connectors with the red top (ECM side) appear to have smooth sides.

I have Bosch OEM type sensors but it's difficult to get in there for a closer look at this point.

...well that was easy. The sensor-side connectors have a channel that clips right in. I feel dumb for even asking, but it wasn't so obvious last night from underneath with a flashlight.

thanks

Welcome to MVS and that's a good question not a dumb one. I puzzled many times about those O2 sensor connectors, everything from how the connectors work to getting them clipped on the bracket.

It's about intuitive as Kolmogorov theory of chaos the first time you look at it.

Ah, calls to mind the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test! I always resort to Smirnoff though ...
