93 940 Air Conditioning Not Cold

Post by e777 »

Hello All,

I have posted a video of the compressor clutch in action and the AC pressure gauge reading here:

My questions are the following:
1. In the video, the engine is idling and the AC is turned to full blast. Does the clutch appear to be working properly?

2. Given that the system is holding pressure, yet the AC is not cold, might the problem be a need to drain and recharge the entire AC system with new R-134A?

Any input would be welcome! Thanks.

Add a can of Freon...it is low on refrigerant...and in this condition, one can destroy the clutch with it cycling all the time.

as 93 said, you are low on Freon. At the auto part store, or walmart )cheapest) get a can of Freon and a hose to charge up your system

When the system is at the correct pressure (not low), you will not even notice the cycling on/off while driving. It really is a night and day difference, and easy to top off yourself.

Thanks to you both. My one doubt is the fact that the system is already at maximum pressure. If I add freon I will exceed the pressure limit. So, this has me wondering if I need to have the whole system purged and recharged with all new R 134A...? Thanks again.

Define...

If high side pressure is high, then system needs to be taken down, and orifice tube replaced. But, if true, I would flush the whole system out....see video...and replace compressor and dryer.

Low pressure side readings mean nothing in regards to system being "max'ed" out.
