That Dual car stereo is awesome. I have a slightly different model including a CD slot in my Jeep. The SD card slot is such a great feature, I don't understand why Dual is the only company featuring it. I load up dozens of albums on a card. The display works great and it's so simple to find everything.

You would know immediately if it is running too hot, even without the "inaccurate gauge".
Yesterday, it was 115F in the shade outside here in Meas, AZ.

Just cursing the highway with a/c on gets me over 220F. Stock needle was still just at the 3 o'clock position.

There are other stereo with SD card slot, search for "head unit sd"

Then one of you'r gauges is not working. I would guess It's the one that says 220. At 220 that car should be running horribly, if at all. If it is really running at 220, maybe yo need a cooler T-stat, heavier coolant mix, or an auxiliary fan. I put a 180 or 190 degree tstat in mine. It put's the needle just past half way. It doesn't get to 115 in NY but it does get close to 100.

Idk. I know what worked for me, I guess everybody has to figure their own stuff out.

My old Wrangler calls for a 210. The previous owner put a 170 in it. It ran great. When I serviced it when I got it, I put the spec tstat Jeep recommended (210), It ran horribly. Run-on, knocks, trans shifting way too late. I put the 170 back in it. Now it runs great again. The jeep forum cried foul. "It can't run like that". Tell that to my car.

See, there are a few issues of what you said.

1. How would you know my gauge is not working? All a stock gauge ever do is point to 3 o'clock after being warmed up.

2. How would you know what the correct operating temperature range is for a Volvo engine? All a stock gauge ever do is point to 3 o'clock after being warmed up.

3. How would you know 220F is too hot for a Volvo engine? All a stock gauge ever do is point to 3 o'clock after being warmed up.

4. How can tell you me 220F is not the correct temperature my engine should be under the condition of 115F ambient temperature with the a/c on and driving down the highway? All a stock gauge ever do is point to 3 o'clock after being warmed up.

I can go on and on, but you see the pattern? I want to know what my engine temperature at any given time. Gauge is easier to use than scanner for me to monitor my engine's temperature.

If your car is running Ok, then 3 o'clock (give or take)) is where the needle should be. If your car isn't running hot, why would the needle go up?
Like I said. I only know the car the kid bought, and what worked for me. I have no idea what goes on in your car, what kind of gauges you use, how their hooked up, tstat and so on.

Where the hell is Jim JRL for this thread? He knows everything.

Hello Everyone sorry for the late reply. Everything is working fine now, the cooling fan runs just fine, usually after shutdown. Now I just have to figure out the AWD system... its done

A properly operating Volvo white block will idle and cycle between 87-105C (thats 188-221F) regardless of outside temperature. Once you move, the motion will regulate the temperature to near the thermostat temperature.

Here I am sitting at idle in 75F ambient..high reading is fan on, low reading is after fan runs.

There is well documented discussion about the ambiguity of the volvo temp guage. My wife's P2 XC70 can cycle as high as 118degC (244F) when monitoring with Torque as it has the original radiator and thermostat (gotta swap them out soon) The guage sits there at the middle even as low as 85degC (188F)

Awful guage!!

There is a very simple reason Volvo installed a self-leveling temperature gauge :D on these cars. Customers apparently complained about their temperature gauges being "all over the place" during normal driving.
If you take a look at various forums these discussions come up from time to time. While I'd like a more precise gauge I like the idea behind it as it gives me the necessary information at a glance. If it's not at 3 o'clock something is wrong.
