2004 XC90 2.5T AWD 10mm mounting bolt on front rotor broken

Post by francisp »

Good evening fellow Volvo enthusiasts. I have a question. Is it viable to leave a 10mm mounting bolt off of a rotor? It snapped in two as I was mounting it on and since it was pretty old and worn, I should have been more gentle with it. I heard that some people leave it off with no issues. I am currently working on putting new rotors and pads and this is the only issue I have that is delaying my work. The other half has been left embedded and I have been trying to unscrew it off. Any advice is welcome and thank you for taking the time to read the post. :!:

That bolt only is a convenience. It will keep the rotor from falling off until the caliper is fitted over rotor in production or during repairs.

Thank You for the quick response. I had no idea that it served only that purpose. I shall continue on.

Did you get another bolt? If so I can bounce down to your hose this afternoon with my easy outs to remove broken bolt.

Use your hacksaw blade to cut a groove then use a blade screwdriver to get it out.

Have you tried using vice grips to remove it? It's a non issue in the function of the brakes the lugs hold the disc. It's just to keep it aligned until you assemble the brakes and whatnot as was already said.
