1999 S70 T5 - Another successful dashboard repair

Post by kallekula »

Ever since I bought this car the dashboard has been cracking, popping, squeeking and banging. It has been an annoyance to me and it has scared the crap out of my wife. Researching the interweb and this forum I came upon a three part youtube video series by Robert (rspi). I basically followed the instructions and ended up with a dead quiet dashboard.

This repair might look/sound complicated but with instructions it is not that hard. Time consuming yes, plan for the car sitting a day.

Upon removal of the dash it was clear that all four mounts had completely shattered. I tried the best I could to puzzle it back together with JBWeld PlasticWeld Epoxy. Once set I used JBWeld Epoxy Putty to reshape and reinforce the mounts.

Just like instructions I put plumbers tape to add extra strength to the plastic mounting tabs

Thanks again Robert for taking your time and making all those videos for us. You frikkin rock man.

Nicely done and thanks for posting this. This may be the month I finally quiet down the squeaky dash in the V70!

Had nothing better to do today so i decided to start fixing the dash on the white one. It wasnt near as noisy as the red one but still irritating.
Two mounts were broken and will be glued snd puttied, the other ones that wasnt broken will be reinforce with plumbers tape.

I found a near new dash in the junk yard in Louisville. Took it to Cincy and replaced the mildly squeaking dash in my daughter's S70. I'm able to pull those things in under an hour now. LOL
