2004 Volvo V70 2.5T shredded serpentine belt

Post by atemelon »

Hello. Last evening I had to stop because of the torn serpentine belt. My tensioner pulley seized up. I was three hours away from my destination, so luckily I was able to locate an Autozone store near by and to my good fortune they had Duralast brand pulley and a belt. I cleaned the pulleys from the melted rubber and put the new parts in and got back on the road. Question, should I replace the Duralast tension pulley and belt with a Volvo/OEM now just to be safe or would running the Autozone brand parts be ok for a period of time?

Replace. Also check T-belt marks: parts of torn serpentine belt often get under T-belt and cause it to skip a tooth.

While there, also inspect the A/C and alternator pulleys for running easy, they are also known to seize at higher miles
