Yeah I did those. They are nasty putting the manifold back on. Separate thread.

Tried this on the 19T on my 2000 V70R. I couldn't get the top bolt out at all. Can only be done by removing the whole turbo. Standard CBV stayed in place!

With the bigger turbo you are totally screwed with the unit in car. I think I would try the water pipe removal before messing with nasty turn bolts though.

Getting to this thing is a big part of the problem. It's a back breaker working over top and back of the engine without a lift.

News of the day. With a refreshed CBV diaphragm and the IPD 16 psi spring, and new clamps on all the turbo hoses, I am hearing the wish..wish...wish of the turbo dumping much clearer when I lift. I don't remember hearing this on this car before

This is also confirmed with the sensation that I have another engine under the hood when the rpms climb above 2500..

So new diaphragm = improved performance. Yay!

I am curious, can you see damage to the old one if you hold it up to the light? I have seen a few where you could see breaches that way, but I am just curious because I have only seen a few.

Here's my brief write up regarding the replacement of the CBV on my '96. There's a pic of the failed unit as well

I recently had to replace the inlet hose to the turbo coolant line on my '98 v70xc and did the outlet hose as well. While I was at it I bought a turbo inlet coolant hose for our '04 xc70 figuring I'll do that b4 it fails like our '98v70xc. Anyway, I was curious to know what were the symptoms to a failing CBV, performance differences, ect.. I was in that area doing the turbo coolant hose which was a real PITA, so I wanted to know what to look for in a failing CBV. Is the '98v70xc/'04xc70 similar enough to the v70t5 that I should investigate this area?
