I think i'm just going to go with the safe route as I already screwed this up after doing all the harder aspects, but was just curious as I read a few other threads were people have damaged the union and been told you have to buy a new pipe, yet thought I could save this new pipe as they aren't cheap from Volvo!

I would be perfectly comfortable doing a flare kit. The beauty of this repair is you know immediately if you did it right. Once your flare is sealed, it will shortly rust itself into being sealed forever - as you already know....

I was looking at this as it works for steel, kunifer and copper lines

Jesus Christ, I'm worse then a woman here with changing my mind but I'm ordering that tool as I bet in the future there will come a time when I have to change other brake lines and this way I can order lengths of brake line, rather then pre made lines from Volvo.

I found that same tool being sold elsewhere cheaper but under a different brand

A roll of Kunifer pipe

These brake unions (which I believe are the right ones)

I can practice a few attempts flaring and I've also ordered some Amalgamating Tape to wrap around points of the pipe as I may cable tie sections which are missing brackets in tight spots.

Just in-case anyone is interested in brake flaring but held off because they assumed it would be too difficult, this video shows how easy it is (with the tool I've purchased). I assume you can get a similar one your side of the pond.

I'm clearly being punished here!.......managed to remove the top caliper bolt which was a 12mm instead of a 13mm, went to remove the bottom caliper bolt and the head is completely rounded off and this time I take no blame as someone before has rounded off that bolt.

You can usually start them with a chisel, then finish them off with vice grips.

Replace of course.

Cheers. Hopefully that will work, otherwise I've seen these sockets which grip rounded off bolts.
