Hello,
I was just wondering what the difference is between a straight OUTER tie rod and the curved one. I know the inner tie rod is straight, but I received a straight outer tie rod as well. I made sure that my car was compatible with the part that was for sale online, and the photo even showed the curved outer tie rod. Of course, when it came, it didn't look the same. I am hoping that it will not be a problem when I take it in. I am only replacing the right side because the left side is fine. I looked up this straight part, and it seems that it is sold for domestic cars. Can I still put it on my volvo, and not have to replace the left side either? Basically, my question is, will it fit? Thanks.

If you put up a picture of it we could possibly tell you for sure but it sounds like you were sent the wrong part, and that it won't fit at all. The geometry of the threaded end of the tie rod compared to the ball joint end must be exactly the same as the old one.

A straight outer tie rod will almost certainly hit the shaft of the sway bar link when the wheel turns inward.

Thanks guys, what you said makes sense, and answered my question. I did take it in, and they replaced what I needed with the right part. I'm still glad I asked on here though because now it is so obvious I was sent the wrong part from the online seller.
Thanks again.
Rebecca
