Did my N/A 20v a few months back.
I got an SKF kit including waterpump. This did not contain the hydraulic tensioner, so got this from Parts for Volvo & it is a Professional Parts Sweden one. Aux belt tensioner is a Febi-Bilstein.
You do not need a special tool to release the aux belt. Just a bit of strong metal cut to fit in the slot on its tensioner, then use an adjustable spanner as a lever.

Once I had set my timing marks, I locked my cams like this:

Just did this yesterday in the drive way. Timing marks sometimes hard to find, but rotate to see the crankshaft mark, line up, and timing marks on camshafts appeared. So I marked with white enamel. At TDC (top dead center) number 1 cylinder, no pressure on cams since this is top of combustion cycle, they stayed lined up without any special tool of zip tie. Checked as I got new belt on, and all was fine. Water pump a little tricky to get in, must go from bottom to get it positioned. Always rotate the engine a few times to detect any mechanical interference (read: valves hitting the pistons), then recheck the timing marks. Put it back together, and worked great. Local shop wanted $685 which included the two pulleys, but I checked mine and they were solid. Water pump was $55 and Conti belt was $23, so I saved over $600 on the repair. Now onto the next project...
Thanks...
Chuck

Yeh it's a great saving ain't it? My kit was around 200 euros all in. The 'recommended garage quoted over 800 euros. 8)

I received my parts.( h2o pump & tm belt kit) noticed a difference w/ the mech. tensioner. The tensioner in car has dog-eared (bent fingers) that seem to lock it onto engine, the one in kit does not- it has 2 post like a 'V'. Question? Are these compatible or do I have the wrong part? Need to get this resolved soon. Thanks for any info.
