I found the genuine Volvo o ring set for sump was a far better quality than Reinz. The rubber on the Reinz product feels hard.
Volvo gasket maker isn't a silicone product; it's anaerobic sealant. It won't cure if exposed to air.
Permatex 51813 is the equivalent and works well.

It has taken me a week but finally made it to this stage. Lots of pressure washing and scraping was needed. Car was driven a lot on dusty roads and with leaking oil has turned it all into concrete.

The previous owner had let the battery dump a bunch of acid all over the tray and it ate the paint off of one of the trans covers. Was thinking of pulling it off to sandblast and repaint. Am I going to get myself it trouble if I take this cover off? Looks like i'll have to permatex it back on since no gasket.
