1995 855 Sagging Headliner

Post by lcc014 »

My 1995 855 headliner falls down (sagging) from front (right behind rear view mirror) to mid-section of back seats. Have anyone fixed this kind of sagging due to old glue no longer holding the lining ?

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

Remove the headliner, carefully peel back the area, and spray both side with this and then reattach.

Or you can find a shop that does headliner, that would simpler and probably cheaper in the long run.

You can have it removed and replaced. I buy the headliner material, remove the board from the car, clean dried, failed glue with a wire brush, spray Dap headliner glue and then replace with new material.

If you like doing this its ok but with the price of $250 USD locally its sometimes faster to drop it off to an upholstery shop once I remove it.

pushpins were suggested and I went with it. Not exactly a fix as much as a compromise. But for $7 and 10 mins later it was the right fix for an older car imo. I went with upholstery pins similar to this but regular pins may work as well.

I did it on our old 745. With a wagon it's usually pretty straightforward to get the headliner out the rear. A surprisingly easy job to lay it down. The sunroof is a little tricky, but not bad. I think my kit had the 3M adhesive--probably similar to the DAP one above. Very easy to spray incrementally and lay down section by section.

If you live where there's winter, I'd recommend doing it outside before it gets cold. I had to do mine in the basement and it is a bit stinky. But so pretty once you're done!

Read these topics. A couple of rspi's famous 'How-to' videos are included. If you do a bit more hunting, I know there was also a right up some where on this subject.
