01 V70 T5 no oil pressure light - intermitant

Post by dw2001v70 »

*****oil level was really low, added and seems to have gone away****
*****brake light fixed as well******

HI all, I have a 2001 v70 t5, I just noticed from time to time specifically around corners, stop signs (when braking) the little oil light pops on and a message blinks no oil pressure. The car seems to be running fine, no other lights than a brake bulb failure (I dont think the socket is getting a good connection)

The car does have 130K on it, around 90-100K I had some issue and the volvo dealer did clear out the PCV stuff (sorry no expert on this area)

I did call them and they said its probably not a sensor, anyone have any pointers, tips or tricks before I take it to them to look at? what could this be, my gut tells me something not good

Im wondering if it's something related to the control module, just because i've also been experiencing these issues
1. front headlight wipers will randomly stay in the up position when i turn the car off
2. this morning i noticed the fuse for the washer fluid blew for the 2nd time in 2 weeks
3. the brake light issue I mentioned above. (I don't think it's the relay as the passenger brake light works)

please help

thanks

Check your oil level to make sure its on the hash grid on the dipstick.

I believe your owner manual says an occasional flash of the light at idle is not a problem, but please confirm that.

Possible causes
No problem - old age of car
Low oil level (find leak)
Loose oil pick up tube in pan - labor intensive job to drop pan and repair - 1000 USD?
Bottom end engine trouble - too much to print here
Empty Nester

*****oil level was really low, added 3 quarts and seems to have gone away****
*****brake light fixed as well, was not getting a good connection where the socket goes into the lens******

will monitor everything closely each week, for now the lights are off and both brake lights working again, safety first!!!

How long ago was the PCV service?

To me it looks like your rear cam seal might have been pushed out due to PCV pressure or is needing replacement. Hard to tell from the angle of the pictures.

it was around 95k-100k and i'm at 130, I wouldn't think the PCV should be bad?
i guess i may have it looked at or is there something i should take off to get better pics

Check the PCV system with the glove test. Place a thin latex glove over the open oil fill hole. With the engine at idle, the glove should be slightly sucked into the hole. Rev the engine. If the glove inflates, the PCV system is clogged somewhere. Lots of experience and information in the web.

Yeah, that's a FRONt cam or crankshaft seal leak.

The timing belt has to come off to get at these, so it's a 1000 USD job at a good independent. Have up you had the timing belt replaced? It was due at 105k mikes or 2011

The timing belt isn't the one you see, it's buried under the plastic covers

no I haven't had it replaced, so are you saying it's an all in 1000 job including the timing belt?
doesn't sound like something i should take on myself
