Re: '98 V70 Outer Tie Rod Won't Come Off
Whoops sorry, I'm not the OP. I was just sharing what helped me solve the problem. He hasn't posted back since deciding to replace the inner tie rod too.

Similar issue with my 2005 XC90 2.5T, was trying to align the car.
No matter what I did (PBlaster etc. etc.), heat and heat and heat...the outer tierod threads are welded into the inner tie rod.
So I gave up on the alignment issue.
Next time when I need to replace the outer tierod, I'd have to order new inner tierod b/c I will remove both inner and outer as a combo.
Trick: whenever installing new tierod, use a bit of antiseize, it helps later!!!

Thanks for sharing everyone! The discussion is great as it sounds like I'm not the only one running into issues. My inner tie-rods come tomorrow. I'm hoping they come off smoothly, but I can see a little rust under the ripped boot on the drivers side. Fingers crossed the pipe wrench will do its magic.
I gave up on removing the outter since the inner need replaced anyway. The jamb nut was easy, but the threads seem to have welded themselves together on the tie rods. I think heat may have worked as nothing else did.
I will definitely use some anti-seize this time!!

I'm back with an update and wrap up to this project. Inner and outter tie rod ends are replaced. The inner tie rods came right off with a pipe wrench and I even managed to get the alignment pretty close. Will be getting an alignment ASAP as suggested by everyone in all the other threads. This was a very strait forward job and with good tools doesn't take too much time or effort.
I basically followed the link below. I know it has been posted many times before but it is good enough to warrant another posting of the link. I have to say the hardest and most frustrating part was getting the boots over the lip on the steering rack. Even greased up the boots took almost as much time as removing and replacing the tie rods!
Cheers!
