Plugs are Volvo type and they look well worn.
I'm putting in NGK BKR6EGP type that were crossed by the guy at NAPA.
Hope they are the correct type.

New plugs are in, it cranks fast purred for a sec on the first crank then nothing.
My guess is no fuel. There is gas in the tank.
Easy way to test for fuel, the valve on the fuel rail?
Nothing bone dry when I press it.
I will look on that blog for fuel pump replacement instructions,
suppose I should check the fuse and/or relay first.

With ignition full on, I have 12V on the right side of the fuse.
Turned it off and read open circuit on the other side of the fuse.
Put the fuse back in with power on and I can hear a relay click, this makes no sense
to me with one side of the fuse being open circuit but .... can't argue with a click.
Have to find the fuel pump relay.
Is the schematic available online since I'm not sure if the relay is closed or not.

Fuel pump relay is under the fuse box -- not the kidney shaped one labelled "main fuse" but the other one near the base of the windshield on the driver's side. You need a torx bit to remove it. Don't recall the size but there are four torx bolts , one in each corner. After the panel comes off, the fuel pump relay has a square top about an inch square, red with the number 103 on its side. If you take a bent paper clip and jump between pins 15 and 87 as someone else mentioned, the car may fire up. If it does, the fuel pump relay is bad and needs replacement. You can drive the car with the paperclip in place, but only as a stop gap.

Nothing jumping 15 to 87, seems it is the pump.
OK watched Robert's video on how to change the fuel pump going to see if I can get to it.
The kids were in a panic over the oil, it has about as much as you'd expect
from an engine this old.

Looks like a mouse was living right on top of the fuel pump.
but anyway there are a lot of wires running in the bundle, is it the
red and black pair going to the grey connector? Getting dark here but
I was hoping to get the pump out and take it with me.

just as a sanity check I tried to measure voltage at the connector and I'm
not getting anything. Is there a collision fuel pump kill? But I heard the
relay click - strange.
It was hard to see maybe I didn't have a good connection.
I'll have to read the owners manual.

Hella brand fuel pump guts are about 76 bucks, is it a good enough brand?
Since it is easy to get to, I don't mind taking a small risk on it failing a bit
sooner than the Volvo part.
Do you really just pull on the fuel line connectors to get them off?
Channel locks?
The large nut won't budge, I'll have to buy that oil filter wrench that looks
like a good fit.
