Re: 1998 V70 rough idle after PCV replacement
Thanks for the update... Good to know that warped IM is a possible issue when this kind of problem arises and also good to know that there is a fix that doesn't involve buying a new IM.

Very true. An extra gasket is considerably cheaper than a used manifold.charleskennedy23 wrote:Thanks for the update... Good to know that warped IM is a possible issue when this kind of problem arises and also good to know that there is a fix that doesn't involve buying a new IM.

That makes sense to me. I hope the engine hasn't overheated before I owned it. My goal is to top 300,000 miles.cn90 wrote:This warped IM might have come from an overheated engine.

It's one of those mysteries, I guess. Overheated engine maybe? It could've been something the first owner did.misha wrote:How?

Or the gasket might have been junk aftermarket part.
This is why when I fix any cars, when it comes to gaskets, seals, I only use OEM simply b/c:
- The mfg's spent tons of money to do the R&D to make sure the gasket/seals last a long time.
- They make sure the fit is good.
- When using aftermarket gasket/seals, one may feel good for a few sec b/c of the money saved, but chances one will deal with tons of headache, time lost, aggravation from saving $5.
I have done enough repairs in my life and dealt with a lot of headache that I don't need any more of these miseries...

Good to know it is cleared up, another typical case of a leak at the manifold ...

Totally hear you on that. It was a Victor Reinz gasket, which I'd thought was OEM. But definitely a good case for staying with what the manufacturer called for in its spec. Thanks again!cn90 wrote:Or the gasket might have been junk aftermarket part.

Definitely a relief to have it taken care of. That, and I don't have the wife giving me dirty looks anymore when I mention our car.erikv11 wrote:Good to know it is cleared up, another typical case of a leak at the manifold ...
