940.. can it take 850 turbo wheels?

Post by CarVolvo »

Has anyone tried putting the typical 16 inch turbo wheels coming from an 850 with 5 bolts on a 940? I curious about the offset from a front wheel drive to a rear wheel drive.

here is the answer!

The turbo wheels from the 850 actually hit the strut or the 940...so you need spacers.

Mathematically, the wheels on the 940 have 25mm offset for wheels that are 6 inches wide. The 850 turbo wheels have an offset of 43 mm and is 6.5 inches wide.

The net effect of fitting 850 turbo wheels onto a 940 is a 24 mm reduction in INNER clearance (closer to the strut, probably will hit it if turned from knock to knock), and the outer position will move inbound by 12 mm. I wonder how they changed the specs for the 1995 960s...
