My VW bug spare tire (Tire 1) is taller than 185/75/14 tires for 245, but this tire (#2) is taller. Speedometer would be off via 5 mph from VW tires.

I suspect this 19" tire would work, if shocks/etc were fit for duty. Any rims for 245?

165/80-15 for a VW Bug is incorrect. It was 155-15, 165-15 was VW Type 3. The correct aspect ratio for a 155-15 is 82. The original 155-15 spare tire in my 88 765 is 25" diameter or 78.5" circumference. I measured it to determine reasonable tire size for the car.

I would have to find an owner's manual, but when scanning this/that, that's what they said.

I've got two spare tire rims mounted with this 165 size, and they work great in winter weather on drive wheels.

In 1956 the stock tire size was 5.60-15

Now, that's bias-ply tire size. Which was equivalent to 155R15 in radial, but you won't find that size. 165/80R15 is about the closest common tire you'll find these days, which is still going to be a tiny bit shorter in diameter.

http://www.tiresize.com does show the modern replacement tire size as 165/80-15 for the classic VW Beetle.

Those Bridgestone's ologic tires designed for BMW i3 and i8 electric cars have a load rating of 1,102 lbs, whereas 185/75-14 tires are rated at 1,290 lbs.

But, Volvo 240s have a bolt pattern of 5 x 108 mm, where BMW's is 5 x 120 mm. It's rather doubtful rim makers will make a rim with Volvo's pattern. There is a rim adapter available, 5 X 108 to 5 X 120 Wheel Adapter, but the other measurements would have to be considered.

I read somewhere some 25-30% more efficient tires...around 7 mpg gain for a 25 mpg redblock.
